A fused glass splash back for Big Blue the campervan

I was really pleased to be asked to make a splash back for a friend who is converting a big blue VW Crafter into a campervan. Thanks to lockdown and not much else to do, he made good progress and thoughts turned to what he’d like on the tiles. Fused glass owls

Over the weekend, I had fun making this cute pair of owls, which were commissioned by a friend. I love making bespoke glass, especially when people challenge me to come up with new designs. I like to involve my clients in the design of their glass so I know exactly what they’d like. Blowing bubbles in fused glass

Well… not really blowing bubbles, but I’ve enjoyed learning how to trap bubbles in glass. Here I’ve used glass stringers (or straws) to trap air between two sheets of glass. I made the little grids first, by fusing the stringers together gently in the kiln. Then I put the fused grids on to a coloured piece of glass and sprinkled powder around the outside, before capping the designs with a clear piece of glass and firing them. Colourful Coasters & New Tools

I’ve treated myself to a new Morton cutting board and tools this week, using the money from some recent sales, especially my little Christmas trees. The Morton tools will help me to cut circles, and to make shapes, such as triangles and squares, faster and more evenly.
